Salmon Ciapatta

Now that is a one good looking sandwich. I bought some frozen salmon and baked it in the oven with some salt and pepper. I also made some garlic mayo. I got some beautiful olive ciapatta bread from the store, it is not mold as someone pointed out in facebook earlier! It is olives! Delicious olives. SO, I put the salmon first,, then some red onion rings, some salad and garlic mayo and finished it with some slices of mozzarella.

I have a problem with mozzarella. I really don’t like it. I think it doesn’t taste like anything, it’s chewy and boring. Or maybe I am buying the wrong mozzarella. Please someone prove me wrong. In this case I used mozzarella because I thought feta would be too dominating, but I still wanted some cheese. Halloumi would have been great, but I was so hungry I didn’t care to start to fry them on the pan. Would have been perfect though. Maybe next time, in the grilling season next Summer.

I’m a bit depressed that the Summer is already over. Everyone else is heading back to Aberdeen to Uni and I’m here in Helsinki all alone. It’s just that the situation doesn’t allow me to go back at least not this year. I have to fix my finances. I will probably apply to Helsinki Uni in the Spring. I should start ordering the test material books. Going to be weird reading about world politics and international relations in Finnish… Who knows if I ‘ll go back to Aberdeen Uni next year!

Today we are going to have an event with the EDN – Espoon demarinuoret, and we are having a party in Espoo. Come and join us!

Tomato Salmon Soup’

Today I thought I am going to make some tuna pasta. BUT. I noticed I have way too little pasta. I like to cook a bit bigger patch everytime so there’s leftovers for work or next day. And then I remembered I had some salmon fillets in the freezer. A plan began to emerge. Crushed tomatoes, the few handfuls of pasta, red onions, garlic, some small can of mushroom slices. And the salmon. Then I found some frozen pea-paprika-corn mix and added that too. And I remembered I have some instant Tom Yum-stuff and I threw a few bags of those too, just to give some asian flavour. I gotta say, it’s pretty good. I think I’m going to add some water to make it go a bit further, this plateful had quite a lot of stuff in it. The best thing about this was that I had all the stuff here at home! Didn’t have to go and buy anything. Which I couldn’t have done anyway since I have like 80 cents on my account at the moment.

I should make more soups. Especially now this time of the year.  It is Tuesday 25th of September now! I am going to schedule to tomorrow though, because I already posted one blog post today.

That bowl btw is from Iittala, the series is called Taika, which is the word for Magic in Finnish. I have only that one red bowl from it. Too bad, I really like it. I think they don’t even make it in red anymore, only in blue and white. I love big bowls because you can eat more from them once. The Taika series goes very well with another Iittala-series I have a lot of, Teema. I have a lot of Teema in black and white and some in grey, which has since been cancelled. Teema stands for Theme, in English.

Ground meat patties with bacon finish

Just look at those babies. All wrapped in delicious bacon. Did you know I love bacon?

I can’t really remember all the goody goody stuff we put into these, but I’ll try: fried onion and paprika, ground meat, some tomato puree, taco sauce, chives and obviously some bacon. There was a lot of otherstuff too I think. No eggs though. Some leftover parmesan flakes and parma ham too! I was a bit worried about the sides of the patties but I think they turned out great, didn’t stay uncooked or anything. The patties were a bit runny on the pan but turned out just perfect.

With them we had some sour cream sauce I made with random spices. And some potatoes.

Obviously some red wine too. The food was awesome, as always with my cooking buddy Vesa!

Midsummer’s festives

This has been a weird month since I haven’t had a job and I have been able to just chill out in parks and beaches with my friends. Luckily I have two job interviews on Monday, and I’m really looking forward to the first one. I have to find my job sertificates somewhere, not sure where I’ve put them last year. I hope I’ll find them but if not, I’ll just have to hope for the best. And it’s off to Norway on Wednesday with Noora, I am so excited about that. I hope the weather will be great because we both like to sunbathe.

I haven’t had a real Summer vacation since… 2008? Now I’ve had a month and I don’t know if I have spent it really well. Quite a lot of drinking and partying. And I haven’t read a single book! I’m still in the middle of the second book of A Dance with Dragons. I am such a huge fan of the series. I just wish George R. R. Martin would write the next books faster. Nothing is more annoying than waiting for the next installment.

Kim and Mira in Kaisaniemi Park

We have been spending a lot of time in Hietaniemi Beach, it is my favorite beach in Helsinki, located in the Töölö district.

Kim at Hietaniemi Beach with his fancy sunglasses.

Yesterday we were at our friends in Northern Helsinki and sunbathed the whole day, topless obviously! I get tanned so easily so I don’t like to have awful tan lines.

Me with no makeup. I’m not really that burnt, it’s just an Instagram effect I think.

It’s the Midsummer festival now and almost everyone else is out of town. I didn’t have any cottage party to attend so we had a city juhannus.  We were at dtm yesterday with my friends Hanna & Joni. A lot of our friends ended up in there later in the evening. Almost all of my friends are in the gay scene, so it feels like going to home when you go to dtm, the biggest gay bar in Scandinavia, I think.

Me at dtm.

Though there were only 3 of us in the table we had like 3 drinks each because they were only 3e before 23.00. So we decided to save some money and buy a few extra. I wasn’t too drunk though, probably because on Thursday I was super drunk. I don’t know if there’s a word for it in English but in Finnish we’d say suojakänni. It means that you can’t get too drunk on the second night in a row. On the table there’s a shot of salmariIt’s a mixed liqueur that tastes like salty liquorice. I think many foreigners dislike the taste. I think I’m going to take a bottle of that to Spain in August to see what the people from my IRC channel think of it.

Well, I ended up buying a new phone… again

I was so pissed off yesterday, because I had a job interview and I was on time and found the place. But! I pressed the buzzer, didn’t hear a thing and nothing happened. And obviously I had forgotten to take the interviewers number from my email and my old piece of shit phone couldn’t log in to Gmail. Anyway, I got it rescheduled later, but I was so pissed I went and bought a new htc Sensation. It was cheaper this time around. I had to take it on a monthly paid plan because well, you could say I’m a bit short on cash at the moment. I love it! I’m trying to remember all the great apps I had last year on it. I installed Seekdroid to my phone and I hope that this time it will work. Last time I don’t know what happened but it just didn’t work. Seekdroid allows you to lock your phone, make it beep and you can send a message to it. You can also track it on GPS. So cool.

My feet! I love these shoes, bought them from Zara Kids. Taken with Instagram. You can follow me on Instagram “Idscu”.

I also installed Whatsapp, Instagram, Foursquare, Google Drive and Spotify immediately. I have had Spotify Premium all the time so finally I get to benefit from it again.  Oh yeah; I have to remember to download the WordPress app too.

Do you have any favorite apps?

A new phone or a new camera

I want to buy a new phone to take pictures with, but then again, maybe I should stay with my old piece of crap and just buy a camera to take pictures with. Then again there’s apps like Instagram I would like to start using.

Instagram (Photo credit: Frank Hamm)

My iPhone owner friends have been raving about it for years now. And now it’s on android as well and I really like android more than iPhone. I actually had to try Instagram so I downloaded it on Kim’s phone and created an account.  Not much pics yet, just this pic of my friend J.:

I really like Instagram so I might have to get a new android just for that. With what money, I have no idea. I’m still stuggling with job stuff, my electric wheelchair has been in repair for over a week and I haven’t really had any interest in going to job interviews with my manual one. I hate it when technology fails me in life!

Anyway, I hope I will get to borrow my parents’ camera for the trip to Norway and Europe.

Which reminds me, not much time left for our trip to Norway. The camp is for young adults with OI, so I expect to meet some other sisters and brothers of short stature! There’s some people I know already like Salla and Betti from Finland and Ingunn from Norway (who I’ve never really met) and Stephanie from Belgium (who I met a few years back in Finland). It’s going to be so awesome, I’m going with one of my best buddies, Noora, and well, we are quite a duo:

That was from last summer’s Ruisrock, I had my hot broken thigh bone and the lobster leg cast. I wish I could go this year as well, but I think my accounts balance forbids me such things.

I need to get my hair more blond before the trip. That’s kinda our thing, being two hot blond midgets on wheels. And sharing things. No more comments on that one.

2011 in review

The stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 2,900 times in 2011. If it were a cable car, it would take about 48 trips to carry that many people.
